‘I Am Sitting In A Cave’

Exploring the compositional margins of silence via practice of minimalist sound art.

This is the final research dissertation as part of the Bachelor of Recording Arts with SAE.

Abstract.
“This study will be highlighting the versatility and compositional use of silence/soundscapes utilised with the practice of sound art. By researching a variety of written perceptions of silence, this study will prove and disprove what is said to be known of silence and it’s use within the art world.
By employing a methodological framework by sound artist Alvin Lucier, I will be able to apply this knowledge to the world of rurality, defining a shift of the soundscape’s fidelity.”
